Braving the sweltering heat our midget and youth athletes made the trek down to Chatham to test their stuff against the very best. Kicking things off in the youth women's hammer was Mackenzie Mullen with a record breaking 42.58 meter toss to win gold, a full seven meters farther than the competition.
Reigning OFSAA champion Marissa Mueller showed why she's the champ, winning the youth girls javelin competition with a toss of 39.49 meters.
Zion Webb started his stellar weekend on Friday evening capturing silver in the youth boys hammer with a throw of 38.51 meters. He would continue his excellent throwing by adding a pair of bronzes on Saturday in the discus and shot put with tosses of 41.70 meters and 14.34 meters respectively.
In track action, new member and sprinting phenom Michael Pugsley raced to a second place finish in the midget boys 300m dash in a blistering clocking of 38.95 seconds. Michael would add to his medal haul on Saturday, grabbing the Silver in the Midget boys 100m dash in 12.15 seconds.
After a rocky start that saw him foul out of the javelin competition, Johnny Vanos came back with a vengeance in the youth boys discus with a gold medal winning toss of 45.65 meters.
Congratulations to all winners and to all athletes who braved the stifling heat this weekend. If you are interested in when the team is competing again, be sure to check out our full 2016 outdoor schedule.
